Homeowners Are You O.P.E.N. For Change?
Most homeowners or potential homeowners are open to looking beyond the four corners of their property; especially, when they’re looking for a place called home… except for one.
How O.P.E.N. Are You?
This homeowner whose an O is oblivious to the concerns about their property and beyond as a norm.
The next homeowner is the P and is pondering that there could be concerns about their neighborhood.
Then there’s the homeowner who is an E and is engaged; they recognize there’s a problem with their community and want to find a solution.
And the last type of homeowner is the N and needs to find a solution desperately before their property value decreases.
How do you S.E.E. Your Community?
How well you SEE your neighborhood will determine how open you are to change. Many times the community can hold more weight or value than the home itself. New and existing homeowners will look at it from three major viewpoints: Socially, Economically and Environmentally. Let’s dig deeper into how well you see.
Socially
Does the neighborhood have a community watch to look out for one another? Do they have community events and a gathering place like a clubhouse? When there is a neighbor in need, do others step up and help or sit back and turn a blind eye?
Economically
The next area is how does the community look economically. This is not referring to how much income a neighbor makes but are they a good steward of their resources?
Do they take care of their home and their yard or do they let their property go to ruins and become shabby? It has a lot to say in how well homeowners own property may increase or decrease in value.
For example, if you have a neighbor or many neighbors in the neighborhood in need of repairs on their home, junk cars parked and torn apart, sitting in their yards for years and years, or other types of debris, can be a big indicator that property values will NOT increase greatly.
Environmentally
Many people want to know if the environment of their home and neighborhood is safe. Safety can be the physical, mental and emotional state for you and your family.
Some examples of concerns could be the following:
- Gang and drug activity
- Sexual predators
- Occult activities (i.e. occult markings on the pavement, animal sacrifices in empty lots, etc.)
- Drinking water – well or city
- Methane gases – coming up from the ground
- Electric towers giving off high power voltage emissions
This is not an exclusive list but gives you ideas on what one sees when looking at their neighborhood or community.
Do You Take P.R.I.D.E. In Your Community?
If you have concerns about how you see your neighborhood, there’s hope. It only takes a few concerned homeowners to come together to see the necessary changes to address and takes P.R.I.D.E. (Personal Responsibility In Developing Excellence) in where they live.
Here are some ways you can take pride in where you live:
- Create a neighborhood online/offline group to discuss how you s.e.e. your community.
- Create a neighborhood watch to look out for any suspicious activity,
- Create ways to help neighbors who could be bringing down property values in the way they keep “house,” before you consider calling local code and zoning enforcement.
- Create a calendar of events to develop community within the neighborhood.
These are some of the ways you can begin to help transform where you live and help others begin to see your community in a new light.
